Kickaholics. Taringa Winter Season
Kickaholics have extended their run at the top with a hard fought 4-0 win over Slap Happy in Tuesday’s final.

The team list were in and with both teams boasting full strength sides, the division one showdown was on.

We saw a first half stalemate with strong defence dominating the game as scoring opportunities minimised.

As both sides probed the edges, it was the middle third that proved to be the battleground for most of the first half.

It took 19 minutes for the game’s first try and it was through Kickaholics leading try scorer Trent Gossner (11).

The rep star got his side on the board first as he scooted through a hole from a crisp inside ball from Justin Noonan moments before halftime.

Finishing second in try assists (with 7), Corey Pocock would feature, this time with the ball in hand as he crossed for his first try off a long range kick.

Isaac Mobbs extended his side’s lead to three moments later with an individual effort through some tired defence.

Pocock’s second came off a neat ruck and spilt with Eliza Mooney on the right edge.

The match was not without drama with both sides losing key men to significant injuries.

Slap Happy duo and team try leaders Brett Coghill (9) and Aaron Fraser (8) probed early but came up empty.

Near misses to Anthony Martin, Ryan Abi and Jalen Andretta almost ticked the scoreboard over for Slap Happy.

In the end, it was the stout defence of Kickaholics and middle trio Mason Hasselmeyer, Justin Noonan and Isaac Mobbs which got them the victory.

Well done to Kickaholics def Slap Happy 4-0 in the Taringa winter division 1 final.

10m rule trial

The final four weeks of winter season at Taringa saw us trial a rule which has been on the radar for a number of years.

As part of the 10m rule trial, no longer can the kicker score off their own kick when inside the opponent’s 10m.

What we have seen so far is a cleaner, more skill based game with more team play while still retaining many of the benefits of kicking that make it Kick It Touch.

Throughout spring season at all venues, we will continue to trial this rule in hopes it will improve various game play aspects.
