LGMs have won their second consecutive Mens competition with a 8-5 win over rivals Joeys on Wednesday night.

In perfect conditions, the defending champions were the hunted, however it was the men in purple who stuck first.

Under the weight of possession and field position, LGMs Representative star Jesse Ripley crossed first on the back of a Joeys’ error.

The momentum stayed with the title holders with Joeys giving away multiple infringements in their own half.

Captain Jackson Paton stepped through some broken defence to give his team their second try.

The theme of the first half continue with the challengers giving away cheap field possession as it put increasing pressure on their goal line.

Danger-man Dean Saxvik quickly capitalised by kicked for himself to notch up LGM’s third try.

It took until 15 minutes for Joeys to receive an attacking opportunity in their opponent’s 10m zone.

With the first touch, Mason Hasselmeyer stepped past two defenders after a ruck and split to get his side on the board.

On the stroke of halftime, LGMs wrestled back momentum with Billy Robertson putting Alex Chapman away down the left touch line to extend the lead to 4-1.

Joeys started the second half in the worst possible way, with the opening kick-off going out on the full.

On the insuring set, Billy Robertson sliced through some feeble defence to push the lead out to four.

Five minutes into the second half, LGMs gave away just their second repeat set and Ben Hayes’ Joeys took advantage.

Blues’ speedster Corey Pocock kicked through to score his side’s second. On their next possession, Jayden Turnbull dived over for his first to bring the scores to 5-3.

The final ten minutes, the game began to open up with plenty end-to-end play as the teams traded points.

Jackson Paton would get his side back on top first, kicking for himself inside Joeys’ 10.

Best and Fairest Mason Hasselmeyer spotted a tired offside defender and slid over for his second.

Jake Richards scored on the wing off a Jesse Ripley pass, while Joey’s Jayden Turnbull scooted over with the assist from Tristan Bell-Blissner.

Brayden Barrett iced the game with three minutes remaining to end a chaotic period.

LGMs secured a famous Mens victory over Joeys. Well done boys.

Player of the match Brayden Barrett extended his side’s lead shortly after with a kick of his own.

Matt Beard was prolific with the boot as he kicked for himself to score.

The same name would appear on the score sheets moments later as he repeated his first effort.

A mid-field wrestle of possession encapsulated the next period of the match with numerous end-to-end sets.

A perfectly placed chip and chase from Brayden Barrett pushed Ballerz ahead for the second time in the match.

With momentum firmly with the mixed title holders, it was only a matter of minutes before Jake Proctor sliced through to record his side’s fourth try.

Ballerz’ Jeff O’Connor gave his side an imposing 5-2 lead with 10 minutes to go after clutching a deft kick to score.

To One Kick Wonders’ credit, they drove the ball downfield on their next possession and almost scored through Corey Pocock

That man would feature heavily in his side’s next possession, following a seven touch set as he sent Nathaniel Wright over in the corner.

The match began to heat up for the challengers as they would stretch the field on their sets in possession, while Ballerz played conservatively.

One Kick’s aggressiveness in attack paid off with Corben White pounding on a loose ball in the in-goal, following a repeat sets inside Ballerz’ 20 metre zone.

For the first time in the match, the game play turned frantic.

Ballerz held a slender one-point lead and tried to shed their conservative ways, while One Kick Wonders had all the momentum as they got a sniff at victory.

Numerous long-range kicks saw some high-risk, high-reward play with neither team submitting.
