Grand Final Wrap: The Ballerz sweep mixed competition!

The Ballerz have taken out the mixed competition after an impressive 5-3 win over Nek Set on Wednesday. Victories to Untouchabl3s and Balls Deep capped an amazing grand final night.

The Ballerz win maiden mixed title!

It was Mother Ruckers’ title to lose. The defending champs have had a strangle hold on the mixed competition for four-straight seasons.

Their finals credentials were questioned in the final round of fixtures as the reigning champions went down to The Ballerz 6-1. Next they faced Nek Set in the semi finals and were disposed of 8-2 in hot and steamy conditions.

The minor premiers went on to dismantle an injured ravaged but highly touted Try Babies team 11-3 in their semi final.

One thing was certain, a new mixed champion would be crowned.

The ladder leaders picked up where they left off last week with a crafty Greg Inglis inspired flick ball by Jake from beyond the dead ball line for Brayden to score in the opening minutes.

Nek Set struck soon after with top try scorer Anthony combining with Josh to set up their side’s first points. Anthony followed up with a try of his own straight after to take an early lead.

The momentum continued with some clever defensive tactics frustrating their opponent’s in attack. With a defensive fullback and team captain Rob shooting effectively, Nek Set took a 3-1 lead into the break.

It was a piece of brilliance from Ballerz team captain Jess who put through a blindside kick for Ben to strike early in the second half. This was quickly followed by a second try to Brayden with the assist from Jake.

With the scores were locked at 3-3 and two minutes remaining, it was a clutch grubber and score from Jess to break the deadlock.

The Ballerz held on for a memorable maiden win.

Players of the match – Brayden, Anthony.

Untouchabl3s create history with victory!

The mens grand final shaped as a true clash of the heavyweights as the mens Minor Premiers Untouchabl3s versed the reigning champions P-Dub.

It was only one point that separated the teams throughout the fixture rounds with P-Dub walking away with a 5-4 victory in round three.
A 2-2 draw in round eight heightened excitement and expectation heading into finals.

Impressive wins in last week’s semi finals saw Untouchables triumph 4-1 over Beer Pressure while P-Dub prevailed after a hard fought win in golden point extra time against Joeys.

The third and final match was sure to live to up all expectations.

With a first half battle resembling the fixture rounds, points were hard to come by. Each team applied pressure to their opposition’s line but neither could crack their stout defence. Some fierce rucking and miss opportunities with the ball saw a scoreless half.

It took some sheer pace and individual genius from mens top try scorer Corbin to scoot 45m down the sideline to break the shackles early in the second half.

Both teams traded blows in one of the most competitive mens finals to date. The challengers would hold on for a stunning upset.

NEW Mens champions – Untouchabl3s

The 1-0 victory gives Untouchabl3s the dubious record of the lowest grand final win in Kick It history. The result pays homage to their league-leading defence seen this season.

Congratulations to the new mens champions, Untouchabl3s.

Players of the match – Corbin (Untouchabl3s), Jono (P-Dub).

Balls Deep survive late comeback to win final!

On paper, the second top 8 final shaped as an even contest.

It was anything but early on.
Quick tries to mixed top try scorer Andrew blew the score out to 3-0 mid-way through the first half.

A shocked Just For Kicks steadied as they tightened their leaky defence to hit back shortly after. Balls Deep would have the final say scoring right on half time to take a 4-1 lead.

The second half started much the same as the first ended with both teams trading tries to see Balls Deep push ahead 6-2.

In arguably their best performance of the season, Just For Kicks mustered three tries on the back of player of the match Jono to get within one point.

It was all in vein as Balls Deep showed their wealth of experience to hold on for the gutsy win.

Player of the match – Jono (Just For Kicks), Jackson (Balls Deep).
