The 2019/2020 bushfires have caused havoc in each Australia state and territory, with many people left homeless, communities destroyed or loss of life.
As Australia bounds together to help those in need, Kick It Touch Footy is privileged to be in a position to host the 2020 Bushfire appeal charity tournament on January 25th at Taringa.
This event is open to everyone with all the proceeds going directly to the Red Cross disaster relief program.
By taking the field on the eve of Australia day, you will help us raise vital funds for families ravaged by the ongoing fires.
Why is this fire season so bad?
Australia is experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, last spring was the driest on record.
Meanwhile, a heatwave in December broke the record for highest nationwide average temperature, with some places sweltering under temperatures well above 45 degrees.
Strong winds have also made the fires spread for rapidly, with smoke impacting people as far as New Zealand.
What damage has been done?
More than 7.3 million hectares (17.9 million acres) have been burned across Australia.
New South Wales have been hardest hit with more than 4.9 million hectares burned and more than 1500 homes lost.
Over half a billion animals have been affected by the fires with millions killed.
One third of New South Wales’ Koala population have been killed with their habit slashed.
Sadly 27 people have lost their lives, including a volunteer firefighter.

Through adversity comes strength as we unite as one.
Thousands of people across the country are digging deep to help those less fortunate. Its our turn to do our bit.
Registrations are now open for the Kick It Bushfire Appeal charity tournament.
Team spots are open to anyone from all walks of life.
Are you new to Kick It? This is your chance to give it a go for a worthy cause.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Red Cross Disaster Relief program. For as little as $20 per player, each and everyone who takes the field can make a difference.
