Mother Ruckers have emphatically defeated reigning mixed champions Nek Set 10-4 in the division 1 final.

A five-try effort from LIVIN top try scorer Nick Gilliland helped Mother Ruckers to their fifth mixed title in eight seasons.

In wet conditions, Nick Gilliland would put his side on the board first with a short kick to score. The reply was swift from Range Brewing try assist champion Shaun Rees, who scored on the ensuring set.

The teams wrestled possession and points with North Brisbane Rep stars Stephen Gill and Josh Pilks crossing for their respective teams as the rain eased.

Five unanswered tries to Nick (3), Stephen and Matt Grieves blew the lead out to 7-2 before a characteristic line break by Shaun Rees who combined with New South Wales representative Chloe Storm closed the gap to 3 points moments before halftime.

Field possession was key to start the second half with Nek Set repelling a hot Mother Ruckers side in the opening exchanges. A string of crucial turnovers stalled any momentum from the reigning champions and the Mother Ruckers made them pay with quick tries to Will Weir and Nick Gilliland.

A late try in the left-hand corner to Keegan Peele iced the game with minutes remaining.

Congratulations to Mother Ruckers on winning the Mixed Division 1 title.

Player of the match Stu Lester sealed the win with a crafty kick and score in the 7th minute of golden point.

In wet conditions, Lachlan O’Keefe sent the game to over time with 5 minutes remaining after scooping up a Will O’Keefe kick that left multiple P-Dub defenders grasping at thin air.

P-Dub headed into the break with a 3-2 lead after Jack Woodbridge scooted 50m to score to end the first half.

The teams traded blows with Stu Lester levelling up the scores after splitting the middle of P-Dub’s defence.

Beer Pressure’s Zac Stanton opened the scoring after latching onto a short grubber before Sam Collins collected a lovely inside ball from P-Dub captain Joe Warren to score.
