Wrap Up: Term One + Game Day Media

Term one came to a close on Sunday following a compelling Game Day event at Carseldine.

Teams from Carseldine, Forest Lake and Toowong competed across three pools, producing some fascinating junior touch footy.

Coaches and participants put in the hard work during each weekly session, coming together as a team and playing in good spirits.

In pool C, we had twelve new players in their first term of Kick It 4 Kids.
A fantastic job by coaches Adam, Mia and Matt to help build confidence, skills and allow them to feel comfortable in a junior touch football team environment.

Equally in pool B, over a dozen new participants took the field.
A credit to coaches Sienna, Willow, Steven, Mia and Matt for getting them ready.

For the first time, Pool A was separated into boys and girls divisions, with Carseldine Blue and Purple coming out on top.

It has been a long time coming for some of our most experienced players who tasted success for the first time.

The Pool A dynamic is an area we can continue to grow as the year progresses, and eventually split up based on age.

A big thank you to our Game Day sponsors Hai Hai Ramen, LazerZone Lawnton and Grill'd Chermside.
A special thanks to all coaches, parents and participants for creating an exciting term one of Kick It 4 Kids.

Introduction to Touch Football

The youngest participants have the last laugh.

The final session of our term one Introduction to Touch Football program included a parents and kids game.

Plenty of smiles, an abundance of laughs and some determined individuals created for a fun end to the program.

During the term, participants learnt the basics of touch footy, including play the ball, dummy half work, basic passing, evasion and some kicking.

With the parents help, participants excelled in a touch football game environment; for some, it was their very first match.

The Introduction to Touch Football program (4-6 years) returns in term two at Carseldine and Toowong.

Try Time | Term 4 Introduction to Touch Football

The Introduction to Touch Football program concluded this week, capping off a successful term 4 at Carseldine and Toowong.

A revision of the program saw sessions reduced to 30-minutes to ensure participants remain invested to the best of their abilities.

Coaches witnessed genuine excitement with activities and games, as well as plenty of smiling faces, each individual growing in confidence and a strong willingness to learn.

This culminated in gross motor skill development, team work and touch football education.

In the final session parents were invited to join the kids on the field for a final match.
Not only was this a huge hit with participants, but also parents.

We were fortunate enough to facilitate this, and in collaboration with mum, and dad, we were able to create a super fun environment.

A big thank you to all our term 4 participants, and parents! Try Time | Term 4 Introduction to Touch Football 7  Try Time | Term 4 Introduction to Touch Football 8

Fundamentals and Direction

The end justifies the means; but how did we get there?

The Introduction to Touch Football program is a pointed, skill-based program with desired learning outcomes in each session.

For example;
Learnings could be as simple as building coordination through running with a ball (in left and/or right hands).
Next, creating a new focus by marking an agility course or organising a relay. Same skill, different environment.

These two learnings lead into Touch Rover (red rover + a ball). Participants will run with a ball in their hand, unless they're a defender.

Introduction To Touch Football Program Week 1
Introduction to touch football program week one.

Touch Rover invokes vision, evasion and team work, especially when there are multiple defenders who are up.

Next we move into our Touchdown activity, where it is a one-on-one exercise, similar to a real game.
Touchdown then leads into the participants first touch football match; albeit super structured.

The skills progression and the rehash of the fundamentals over the course of the term is key.

Constantly using, and revision of skills in different environments will create a foundation in which to build from.

Touch Football experience

Of course, it's not all running around in fun environments.

There are touch footy game play learnings as well.

At Kick It, we are fortunate to be able to kick the ball in matches. This will make up 2-3 activities during the term.
The best part about kicking is that kids will often kick the ball with mum & dad or during warm ups. A sharp up-skill is very real when it comes to kicking.

Touch Football game play aspects such as passing, catching and play the ball are highlighted.

Play the ball is a main focus from week two, starting from the basic movement, to understanding what a dummy half is/does, as well as the first receiver.

Introduction to touch football program week four.

Coaches can create some buzz by combining skill groups and activities to reach a learning outcome.

For example, creating an agility course, or relay - an activity that is familiar - which includes a play the ball action.
Or organising a game of stuck in the mud with performing a play the ball the only way to get 'unstuck'.

The skills learnt become a foundation, and a basis for participants first touch football game in week 5.

The parents and kids in week 6 is a program highlight, and gives mum/dad a small taste into their increased experience.

Parents are able to access the full six-week Introduction to Touch Football program below.

Term 1, 2026 will start from January 27th at Toowong, and February 2nd at Carseldine.

Registrations are now open.
Children aged 4-6 are able to join, including those turning four in 2026.

Term 3 Full-time: Growth | Game Day Media

Term 3 has come to a close following the third and final Game Day event at Carseldine on Sunday.

The Kick It 4 Kids competition has seen notable growth this term.
A steady increase in participation has seen the Game Day pools expand to three, creating a better skill/age brackets.

An improved coaching activity resource has provided coaches with access to over 70 touch football skill activities to run each sessions. The publicly accessible resource also provides parents with the knowledge to organise activities at home.

A number of new coaches have joined the team in preparation for the influx of new participants next term. Coaches receive numerous resources to put them into the best position to mentor and develop their team.

The Kids' rulebook has been revised to bring it more inline with the adults rulebook and code of conduct.

New in term 4 will be location pages highlighting weekly information, teams and coaches - see bottom of page

Exciting times are ahead with plenty of exciting adjustments on the cards over the next twelve months.
