Taringa Autumn season - Next-Gen Untouchables

Four-Peat for Next-Gen Untouchables

Taringa champions Next-Gen Untouchables have made it four mixed grand final wins on the trot after defeating Burners 5-1 in the final on Tuesday night.

The result marks only the second time in Kick It history that a team has won four mixed titles in a row and the first at Taringa.

Next-Gen Untouchables also claimed the 2017 Cash Day tournament to make it a clean sweep over the last twelve months.

The Burners made it to their second grand final in as many seasons as the challengers hoped to end the streak of the green team.

Their trademark rucking style and scrambling defence was a feature early on as they held Untouchables scoreless in the opening 10 minutes.

It took a spark from Queensland Origin representative Bec Rophia to crack the Burners defence, before former Redcliffe representative Bronson Butler capitalised on the next possession.

It took until the 19th minute for Burners to post their first points after new New South Wales captain Joe Flannery pounced on a loose ball to dive over the line.

The 1-1 deadlock was broken early in the second half with Next-Gen Untouchables captain Tammy Haydock crossing for her first try.

After relentless pressure and a handful of repeat sets on the Burners goal line, Tammy crossed for her second to ice the game with just minutes left on the clock.

The Bermuda Bri-Angles defeated Footy McFootface 5-2 to secure their first mixed 2 crown since entering the competition in 2017.

In a match that featured two grand final rookies, the stage was set for an enthralling matchup.

New South Wales duo Alec McMaster and Archie Walter featured as the pair put on nice inside ball to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Man of the match Harry Elmes broke the game wide open early in the second half with a craft kick-and-chase to score before a couple of late tries sealed the victory.

It was a tremendous effort by Footy McFootface to make the grand final after being forced to play two semi-finals matches against Out Of Touch with both going to extra time.

Experienced David Curti found the try line and got a result for his side to lead them to the grand final match.

Next-Gen Untouchables make it THREE IN A ROW! 20

Next-Gen Untouchables make it THREE IN A ROW!

THREE IN A ROW.

Next-Gen Untouchables have secured their third Taringa crown on the trot after defeating Burners 6-2 in the final on Tuesday night.

The experienced Kick It side matched the achievement from back in 2012 when they dominated the competition. Only two teams from Taringa have won three titles in a row, with Monday night’s Yeah Yeah Nah matching the feat.

It was Burners who went undefeated through the fixture rounds to sit a top the ladder heading into the finals, only for their perfect season to come undone on the final stage.

In a quick and competitive match, sportsmanship showed as spirits remained high heading into the last minute.

Burners
Summer 2017/2018 runners up

A first half hat-trick to Next-Gen Untouchables co-captain Anthony kept the reigning champions within reach following a fast start from Burners.

Two quick tries to both sides in the opening minutes left the game in a precarious position. Some slick hands and traditional touch footy moves followed as both teams traded blows.

Despite two early tries from player of the match Joe to edge Burners ahead early, Next-Gen Untouchables lead 3-2 at the break.

A second half stalemate ensued as both teams reverted to a heavy ruck attack. Untouchables’ Luke broke the game open with a wonderful short kick, while Matt did the same on his team’s next possession to blow the lead out to 5-2 in the space of three minutes.

A galant Burners side threw everything at their opponent late in the second half before Bronson capped the victory, scooting through some weary defence.

Players of the match – Joe (Burners), Tammy (Next-Gen Untouchables).

Dugongs do it again!

Long serving team Dugongs made it three grand final wins in their last four outings after defeating Out Of Touch 8-5 in the second top 8 grand final.

Big efforts from Terry, Dave and Lucy showed class against a less experienced opponent as Dugongs lead from the outset.

Late tries from Out Of Touch captain Chris and Annalise kept the game tight, however Dugong’s defence held.

Players of the match – Chris (Out Of Touch), Dave (Dugongs).
