Every One Is The Winner | Mens LIVIN Charity Shield Wrap Up

The fourth annual LIVIN Charity Event was a huge success from start to finish. We saw 14 teams battle it out through the day until we crowned a mens and mixed champion in the evening.

It was a day for everyone with a strong community feel uniting for one common goal – raising awareness and funds for mental health and depression. A special thanks to all our sponsors who contributed and/or donated prizes to our players and teams. The commitment shared by all those involved helped us raise $1,500 for charity.

Mens Division
2018 Mens champions Dodgers returned for their second stint, while long standing Kick It mens teams Beau Knows and Unstoppable Force reunited in what would be a highly competitive division. New teams Banter and Don’t Grubber It made their LIVIN Charity Shield debut, with the latter having the last laugh by sun down.

Don’t Grubber It went undefeated throughout the day, drawing only to Unstoppable Force in the final pool match. Shane Satterly and captain Kaleb Lerch combined for eight of their side’s 13 tries. Satterly would rack up two try assists to lead his team and be outright second for assists in the mens division.

Beau Knows performed well throughout the event disposing of their 2018 nemesis Dodgers in the first round of fixtures before dismantling Banter and Unstoppable Force later on. Awesome-foursome Corey Pocock (5), Dylan Bone (3), Steve Taylor (2) and captain Ben Hayes (2) all combined for 12 of Beau Knows 14 tries, while Tristan Bell-Blissner notched up three try assists to lead the mens division.

Unstoppable Force showed their strong attack posting the most tries (15) of any team through the pool rounds. LIVIN top try scorer Sam Ferrell scored six, while Jai Lockrey (3) and Jake Harding (2) combined for another five. A late draw with Don’t Grubber It ensured a all-Kick It semi final between Beau Knows and Unstoppable Force.

Dodgers returned to defend their crown in this year’s event. After matching it with the best in 2018, the boys in Blue got off the bottom of the table with a draw against Unstoppable Force in their second match. Dodgers would go on to hammer Banter in their final pool match with a 8-2 win. Five players scored all Dodgers’ 13 points, lead by Lachy Creevy with three.

The pink brigade that was Banter tried their hand at Kick It for the first time. The social group of boys were able to have a laugh while playing with their mates. While they went winless throughout the day, they were the real winner with a handful of vouchers thanks to our event sponsors.

2019 LIVIN Charity Shield Mixed Wrap Up

The fourth instalment of the LIVIN Charity Shield was hugely successful as 14 teams fought it out as we helped raise vital funds and awareness for mental health and depression. By late evening we were able to crown our new Mixed LIVIN Charity Shield champion.

Teams were the beneficiary of some great player prizes thanks to our event sponsors. Motto Motto Japanese Restaurant, Grill’d and Newstead Remedial Massage each provided over 100 vouchers, while our grand final seasonal sponsor Arrivederci Pizzeria assisted with the major prize. A special thanks to Power Station Co who served coffee throughout the event and Share Story for filming the action.

Mixed Division – Pool Rounds
Last year’s mixed champions Nek Set were arguably the most impressive team on the day as they didn’t drop a game throughout the pool matches. LIVIN top try scorer Corey Pocock scored 11 of Nek Set’s 18 tries to easily lead the mixed division. Rob Paese lead the event with 4 try assists, three of which lead to Pocock tries. Their only hiccup would come with a 4-4 draw to Troopers in the third pool game, however they still stood atop pool B.

Kickaholics Anonymous carried their strong form at Taringa into the LIVIN event going through undefeated. The best defensive team in pool A prospered on the back of Womens Top Try Scorer Eliza Mooney (4) and Trent Gossner (4) who combined for 12 of Kickaholics’ 18 points. The Taringa team would stroll into the finals at the top of their pool.

Woof had an indifferent day scoring two crucial early wins against The Farnhams and Bailey’s Disciples, while falling to Wu Tag Clan and Kickaholics to end the pool rounds. Woof, who consisted of many ex-Kick It players managed to creep into second in pool A on for and against. Micheal Lam, Steve Taylor and Jason Mitchell equated for 11 of Woof’s 16 tries.

Long serving Northside team Troopers put in a hurculean performance after losing four players before kick-off. A combined seven tries to Matthew Allen (4) and Shaun Tupou (3) helped their side to two wins and a draw. A win against Rampage in the final pool match of the day punched their semi-final ticket.

Stafford representatives Wu Tag Clan had a mixed morning, winning one of their first three matches before losing one of their best players to a broken leg. An inspiring late win against Woof in the final pool game wasn’t enough as they were pipped in the finals race by their opponent.

Rampage boasted the equal-best attack throughout the pool rounds scoring 20 points (on par with Nek Set). Tries to Ben Schofield (3), Funcho (3) and Annaleis Tatkovic (2) equated for half their side’s points, while Tom Primmer and Joseph O’Brien tallied 2 try assists each. An injury delay throughout the middle of the day postponed their final match with Troopers until 3:55pm. The match would seal the fate of both teams with the winner moving through to finals. A special thanks to team captain Clancy Tickner for assisting with the Charity day BBQ.

The Farnham’s returned after a 24-month hiatus at the annual Kick It event. Featuring some former representative star players, Farnham’s got on the board early with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Wu Tag Clan. Shane Kelly (3) lead his side’s scoring, while Tegan Spicer scored one of the tries of the day.

Bailey’s Disciples continued their involvement in the Charity Shield concept after being runners up at last year’s event. It took until the fourth pool game, but Bailey’s got on the board with an impressive 3-1 win over The Farnhams. Jacob Navybox (3) lead his team’s scoring, while Lachlan Saunders chipped in with two tries. A special thanks to team captain Don Grahame for assisting with the Charity day BBQ.

Cobras entered the day as one of the most experienced teams given they made their Kick It debut in 2009. Plenty of laughs were had by the group who donned bright pink attire. Mark Pilgram racked up three tries while team captain Zach Caruana grabbed a couple of try assists.

Semi-Finals
Kickaholics Anonymous def Troopers 6-1
Woof def Nek Set 7-5

Grand Finals
Woof secured their maiden Charity Shield win with a gutsy 4-1 victory over Kickaholics Anonymous. Tries to player of the match Michael Lam, Steve Taylor, Kurt Bramley and Jason Mitchell locked up the game. Woof received a $300 Arrivederci Pizzeria voucher, while Kickaholics Anonymous took home a Motto Motto and Newstead Remedial Massage gift pack.
