Nek Set take out Carseldine Mixed!

Nek Set have taken out the 2018 Carseldine Winter mixed competition with a nail biting 12-10 victory over two-time champions The Ballerz.

A try in extra time to LIVIN top try scorer Chloe Storm secured her team’s maiden win in what was the highest scoring grand final in Kick It history.

A five-try performance from Nek Set’s Shaun Rees helped the long-serving team hold the lead from the get-go. It was a Shaun Rees break that would set Chloe up for the first try of the match.

Shaun would reply with a try of his own to blow the lead out to 3-0 within the first five minutes.

Best and Fairest Jayden Turnbull pounced on a fortunate chip kick from Zac Jane to register Ballerz’ first points of the match. The joy was short lived with Cole Leniu grasping a pin-point kick from Rob Paese followed by a textbook show-and-go from Corey Storm to push the lead out to 5-1.

Ballerz responded with Queensland Origin representative Brayden Barrett scooting down the sideline off a perfectly worked piece with Jayden Turnbull.

A series of strong rucks saw Nek Set’s James Arundel set up Shaun Rees with a basketball pass over the winger to extend the lead minutes later.
Shaun would score his third of the half with a crisp grubber in the 19th minute.

Brayden Barrett would scoop up a downfield kick to score his second right on halftime to cut the lead to 7-3.

With the reigning mixed champions under the pump, captain Jess Sleep would score the first of three second half tries to get her side back in the game in the 24th minute.

Quick tries to James Arundel and Shaun Rees kept Ballerz at arms length while Zac Jane crossed for a try of his own against some tired outside defence.

Jayden Turnbull notched up his third try assist of the game as he put Jess Sleep over in the corner to cut the lead to just one with 4 minutes remaining. A cheeky grubber to Shaun Rees appeared to ice the game with just seconds left on the clock.

In the final moments, Ballerz drove the ball down to their opponent’s goal line before a nifty dump and split from Jess to level the scores on the final play on the game.

In one of the wildest grand finals in Kick It history, congratulations to Nek Set on their 12-10 victory in extra time.

Player of the Match: Shaun Rees
Best and Fairest: Jayden Turnbull

Nek Set: Shaun Rees (5), Chloe Storm (2), James Arundel, Cole Leniu, Corey Storm.

Nek Set take out Carseldine Mixed! 2

Mens champions P-Dub go back to back with an emphatic win over the experienced Joeys side.

Player of the match and P-Dub captain Joe Warren sealed the 4-1 victory with a hat-trick early into the second half before a 40 metre show-and-go from Brenton Biddle iced the game with minutes remaining.

North Brisbane pairing Sam and Jayden Turnbull looked likely for Joeys combining for their side’s only points of the game.

Some deft kicking and support play from Joe Warren negated any comeback with tries in the 10th, 18th and 28th minute.

Best and Fairness Tristan Bell-Blissner defended well on much quicker men and kept his team in the game throughout the second half. It was the best defensive team in the competition that had the last laugh as they held firm to win their third mens title in four seasons.

Player of the Match: Joe Warren
Best and Fairness: Tristan Bell-Blissner
P-Dub: Joe Warren (3), Brenton Biddle (1)
Joeys: Jayden Turnbull.

Kick It Touch Taringa Winter 2018

Five in a row for Next-Gen Untouchables

A late try from Anthony Martin has capped off a history making night with Next-Gen Untouchables becoming the first Kick It team to win five grand finals in a row.

The win places them above other polarising teams such as Swoop, Pink Bits, Mother Ruckers, Yeah Yeah Nah and Hi-5.

Down a number of regulars, Untouchables relied on their experience with crucial tries to Tim Christie and player of the match Luke Dougall to secure a 4-3 victory.

With just 8 minutes remaining, the scores drew level following a pin-point cross kick from Todd Snowden to Burners’ South Brisbane representative Ryan Mason-Cox.

Burners showcased their strong rucking skills and gained the upper hand early in the second half with some swift moves from captain Camilla Williams and Aaron Tomoana. The pair would assist Blues Origin captain Joe Flannery and ‘best and fairest’ Todd Snowden with a pair of linebreaks to play the field position game.

Moments before half time a crafty grubber from Anthony Martin gave Untouchables a 3-2 lead.

A 16th minute try to Tim Christie after an error in judgement from two Burners defenders saw the long-time player ground the ball just centimetres inside the dead ball line.

South Brisbane star Aaron Tomoana combined with former LIVIN top try scorer Charlene Hanley to give Burners a 2-1 after 10 minutes.

An early try to Luke Dougall, who skipped past some would-be defenders to plant the ball down off an Anthony Martin kick was enough to give his side the first points of the match.

Result: 4-3.
Next-Gen Untouchables | Anthony Martin (2), Luke Dougall, Tim Christie.
Burners | Charlene, Ryan.
Player of the match: Luke Dougall.
Best and Fairest: Todd Snowden.

Dugongs notched up their third division two title since 2016 with an emphatic second half display down Multiple Scoregasms 5-3.

Player of the Match Tim Mitchell backed up his strong Queensland Origin performance and starred for the ‘Gongs’ with an impressive two-try effort.

A first half stalemate saw both teams locked up at 0-0 heading into halftime. The scoreless first half was the first in a grand final at Taringa in over six years.

The points were poised to flow in the second half with both teams combining for 43 tries in the weeks leading up.

It look just two minutes for the deadlock to be broken with a smart grubber from Tim Mitchell to score.

The rebound was swift as Julian scooped up a loose ball and scooted 40 metres to score on the ensuing set.

A lovely inside ball from Tim Mitchell in the 25th minute sent Harry Elms over untouched.

The scores were tied up just minutes later when Jacob McMahon pounced on a grubber. Team captain David Sercombe fell on a fortunate cross-kick to extend the lead after a horrific bounce fooled two Dugongs defenders.

Some solid rucking and field possession from captain Dave Shaw and Ben Walker put their side in an attacking position before a perfect set piece that went through five sets of hands to send Renaee Roach over in the corner for a two-point girl try.

A late consolation try to Tim Mitchell put the game beyond doubt with just seconds remaining.

Result: 5-3
Dugongs: Tim Mitchell (2), Harry Elms, Renaee Roach.
Multiple Scoregasms: Julian, Jacob McMahon, David Sercombe.
Player of the Match: Tim Mitchell.
