In a Taringa Autumn season disrupted by COVID-19, two teams in each of their respective divisions stood out from the rest.

Division one stalwarts Next-Gen Untouchables and Kickaholics faced off in their fourth consecutive Taringa grand final.

It was a case of last man standing with a number of core players from both teams missing through injury and other commitments.

While Mike Hunt, boosted by the inclusion of a number of new players post-COVID, finished the fixture rounds level pegging with division 2 specialists Best Friends.

Key Stats
Dominant Untouchables’ Ted Doggett, Anthony Martin and Matt McIver all finished the season inside the top five in tries scored.

Kickaholics’ Trent Gossner lead the way for his team with 9, while ladies duo Chloe Storm (8) and Eliza Mooney (8) helped guide their side to the final.

LIVIN top try scorer Caolan Geraghty notched up a monster 25 tries in seven games as Mike Hunt averaged over 9 points per game during fixtures.

Best Friends on the other hand boasted the top assist leaders in their division with Tigers Rep stars Lachlan Brennan (7) and Riley Wagner (6).

The former absence for the final in what was a massive blow.

Dynamic Duo
The stage was set for two of the most gripping grand finals to date. Injuries, COVID and a disrupted season appeared to level the playing field.

This ice-cool train of thought was shattered by two individuals in Teddy Doggett and Toby Campbell.

The pair took the game away from their opponent with traditional touch football moves which caught out some sluggish middle defenders.

To put it into perspective, both Ted Doggett and Toby Campbell recorded four try assists.

Both assisted one try to each of their team’s other try scorers. Both men also scored early in the match.

The performance of both playmakers provided little contrast between the matches and showcased some supreme talent and often at times freakish skill.

Elsewhere we had slicing tries to Next-Gen Untouchables Jim Finn, while Mike Hunt captain Julian Cullen-Arthurs and Caolan Geraghty recorded superb individual tries from long range.

The South Brisbane Tigers will look to secure their first tournament win this October.

The Mens team has reached the finals on three occasions, only to fall short of victory. Most notably in 2017 which they lost in extra time.

The Tigers’ mixed team will be looking to build on a promising last two years with a handful of players retained over the period.

This year’s team will boast 13 players from last Tuesday’s grand final teams.

Next-Gen Untouchables: Matt McIver, Anthony Martin (mens). Tammy Haydock, Sarah Martin (mixed).
Kickaholics Anonymous: Eliza Mooney, Trent Gossner, Kirk Barber, David Sercombe (mixed).
Mike Hunt: Ethan Menchin, Caolan Geraghty, Emmie Folan-Murphy (mixed).
Best Friends: Lachlan Brennan, Riley Wagner (mixed).

Full teams will be announced in early September.
The 2020 Rep Cup is set to take place at Taringa on Sunday, October 18th.
