North Brisbane Sharks Sweep 2020 Rep Cup

The North Brisbane Sharks have claimed their second Rep Cup clean sweep after defeating the Toowoomba Giants in the final on Sunday.

The win marks the second time the Sharks mens team has taken out the top honour, while the mixed secured its third.

Heading into the finals as underdogs against the reigning champions, the Sharks’ strong middle men came to the fore.

The prolific try scoring threats in both mens and mixed turned it on off the back of the momentum driven by the middles.

Ballerz’ Jake Coolwell and Adriano Gaile combined for the Shark’s two crucial second half tries to get the mixed side home against a frantic Toowoomba outfit 4-3.

Sharks captain Jess Sleep crossed for her side’s only points of the first half from a Jake Coolwell grubber.

Giants’ player of the match Allan Cooper got his side on the board with a first half double, while danger-man Kevin Platz pushed his side ahead early after half time.

A controversial, but correct try ruling to Adriano Gaile off a grubber from Jason West six minutes from time sealed the famous win.

The Sharks mens team has won their first Rep Cup title since 2012 with an emphatic 5-1 win over the Giants.

Leading Stafford try scorers Corey Pocock and Jesse Ripley starred with four tries, while 2012 champion Tyrone Lockrey notched up one of his own.

The Sharks mens win is their first over the Giants (formally the Titans).

Boasting a team of familiar faces, the Giants had the ascendancy early with a heavy dose of rucking and key field position.

Roderick Robertson crossed for his side’s first and only points with a beautiful show and go to beat two Sharks’ defenders.

The Brisbane outfit started to win the field position battle and their dangermen came into the game.

Corey Pocock scooted 20m down the right sideline to score the Sharks’ first points, while Jesse Ripley dived over in the same corner from a lovely ball from Jai Lockrey.

Signs of wear and tear started to show with stars Chris Chan and Roderick Robertson succumbing to injury, while captain Ben Burstow battled through a number of niggles.

A walk over try from Tyrone Lockrey minutes before halftime produced an overstated scoreline at the break as the Giants scrambled to maintain seven players on the field.

Some tremendous fortitude and determination willed the talented Toowoomba side on early in the second half.

As they fell back to their default of rucking and tight defence, the Sharks were afforded little opportunity.

Without subs, the toll began to show as the game started to break up mid-way through the second half.

A rare opportunity gifted try-scoring threat Jessie Ripley his second to break the backs of the gallant Giants side.

Corey Pocock would chase a 20m grubber shortly area to ice the victory as plenty of Toowoomba players hobbled off the field.

Well done to the Sharks Mens side defeating the Giants 5-1 and ending their three-year reign at the top. Hold your heads up high Toowoomba!

Fastest Man and Woman in Kick It | 20/10 Knock Out Competition.

Amazing effort by our Fastest Man and Woman in Kick It race champions Beau Hess and Chloe Storm.

The win is Beau’s second consecutive title, while Chloe improved on her 2018 second placing.

Big props to Kahlem Reardon who claimed the 20/10 knock out comp in difficult conditions.

We had seven out of 38 players make it to the second round with Kahlem the last man standing. Well done.

2020 Rep Teams updated; Keys To Victory

The teams for the 2020 Representative Cup are locked in on the eve of the annual event.

The Toowoomba Giants (formally the Titans) will look to defend their mens and mixed title from a year ago.

North Brisbane Sharks

The Sharks have made a host of forced changes due to injuries.

Former Tiger Jason West comes into the mixed team, along with Ben Hayes as the pair look to take advantage of their Joeys and Ballerz combinations.

Also in is 2018 Shark James Arundel, replacing Carseldine teammate Shaun Rees.

The Sharks mens side have made just one change with victorious 2012 Shark Tyrone Lockrey coming in for Dean Saxvik.

Key players: Corey Pocock (mens), Chloe Storm (mixed).

You can’t teach speed and these two have it in spades.

Look for them to represent the Sharks in the fastest man/woman in Kick It races and finish in the top 2.

Also, look for their speed to show up on game day with the duo regularly topping the individual try leaderboard for their seasonal teams.

Both Pocock and Storm have the ability to blow a game wide open.

Where it will be won:

The Sharks mens side boasts 9 players from the top three mens teams.

They will use tempo and quick rucks to get the defence retreating to create space for their outside men.

Critical to the middle is captain Matthew Allen, LGMs leader Jackson Paton and P-Dub’s link-man Bill Chisholm.

If these guys play well, the speed-men on the outside will have a field day.

The same can be said for the mixed team. Expect them to play tight through the middle with the girls to capitalise when attacking inside the opposition’s red zone.

All of the Sharks girls can play in the middle. Not only do they ruck, but they can also put on points.

Brisbane Tigers

The Tigers mens side has made one forced changed with Next-Gen Untouchables front-man Matt McIver succumbing to a shoulder injury.

Rampage’s Ben Schofield comes into the side in jersey no.11.

The Tigers mixed team has two new faces in former Blues representative Colby Altman and former Shark Dan Ebert getting the nod.

Kirk Barber and Ethan Menchin both miss out due to ankle injuries.

Key Players: Eliza Mooney (mixed), Aaron Fraser (mens).

Reigning Taringa and Stafford top try scorer Eliza Mooney will have plenty to do if the Tigers gasp the shield in this year’s tournament.

Together with key middles Tim Mitchell and Dan Ebert, the trio will need to set the pace for their quicker outside men and zippy girls.

Expect to see Eliza’s name on the scoresheet if the Tigers run up a score.

The Tigers mens team has a much more balanced contingent compared to that of 2019.

Boasting a number of middle men and stout defenders, expect to see the boys in black dominate the middle third of the field.

2012 Sharks star Aaron Fraser makes his return to the Kick It Rep scene and is a key man.

He will be the link between the middles and outside men with a host of crafty plays and sight of hand.

Toowoomba Storm

Coming in short in last years rep day, Storm Men’s have a new and improved quad ready to take out the competition!

Storm are loaded up with speed, agility and experience.

Our speed men, Nathan, Brandon and Justin are in their primes when it comes to putting points on the board!

When in comes to experience and knowledge, Josh, Locky and Marky know how to dismantle the opposition and find the opportunities to dominate!

A team is nothing without a impactful bench and impactful they are.

This team run by their captain Marty are here to make and imprint on the game and are looking to take out the competition in straight sets.

Martin Baldo – Mens Storm captain.

Where it will be won: Locky Stephson.

When an opportunity presents itself, Locky Stephson will be the one to take the right open.

Two years removed from of the best Rep day performances by an individual, he will look to showcase his skills at this year’s event.

Watch his speed and all-round skill to show up on field and on camera.

The Storm need a big performance from their key man in hopes to improve on last year’s fourth placing.

Toowoomba Giants

Three years ago the Toowoomba Titans men’s side turned up at the Kickit Rep day for the first time.

That day was the highlight of all my years playing kick It.

After 3 very close, 1 point wins, this group of guys who had known each other for years as fierce rivals found themselves 3 tries behind at halftime in the rep day grand final.

I remember the half time body language. It was game faces on and a strong “we aren’t beaten yet” vibe.

We got those three points back and won it in extra time.

I turned some rivals into mates that day and held up a trophy with my brother at the end.

The guys go back to being rivals all year round until this one day a year when we come back together and play for a team that now mean a lot to all of us.

This year we are “The Giants”. There are some new faces but rest assured the Titans are there and the new guys know what shoes they’re stepping into.

This is a group of guys that know how to get a game won and a great group of mates who love playing for one another.

I reckon we’ve got another one in us.

It comes as no surprise that the key men for both Giants teams are the middle men.

Two years ago, Kevin Platz tore all his opponents to shreds as he was the mixed player of the tournament.

Agility and a crisp passing game went unmatched. That could be the case in this year’s tournament.

Isaac Parker is a quiet achiever but has a knack for doing all the dirty work in the middle and often comes up with a try.

Look no further than last year’s State of Origin where he almost got the Blues across the line in a spirited second half performance.

If the Giants make the final, expect Isaac’s fingerprints to be on the game plan.
