2020 Taringa Spring: Kickaholics, Best Friends Victorious
Kickaholics Anonymous have won their second Taringa mixed title with an emphatic 17-1 win over Free Range Chicken Thunder Godz on Tuesday.
Boasting try-scoring dynamos Corey Pocock, Trent Gossner and Eliza Mooney who accounted for 53 tries in eight fixture matches, they took the field as heavy favourites.
It was a tremendous effort from Free Range Chicken Thunder, who in their first season of Kick it, finished second on the ladder.
The absence of Nick Reilly and Connor Wright; their two leading try scorers proved to be a massive hurdle.
In spite of their absence, they performed well in attack, all-be-it without the polish seen in the fixture rounds.
Kickaholics skipped out to a 5-0 inside 10 minutes on the back of two Eliza Mooney tries and one to Trent Gossner.
The momentum continued through Isaac Mobbs and Mason Hasselmeyer who crossed from close range to extend their side’s lead to 7-0.
Trent Gossner iced a perfect first half with a long range try from his own half as he scooted down the left wing.
It was a much different half time speech for Kickaholics with long-time rivals Next-Gen Untouchables out of the picture.
With the latter playing later in the night, it was a much more relaxed chat this time round.
Corey Pocock and Eliza Mooney got their team on the board early with tries of their own.
The return of Free Range’s Jake Dallas produced arguably the try of the match with a picturesque chip and chase to get his side off the duck-egg.
Kickaholics’ Simon Crowe crossed for his first try in a grand final before Corey Pocock notched up his second and Trent Gossner his third.
Not to be outdone, Eliza Mooney kicked for herself to notch up her fourth try in the dying stages. The effort which included a try assist earned her player of the match honours.

Best Friends hold off fast-finishing Rampage
Best Friends claimed their first mixed title win with a 7-6 win over the highly-talented Rampage.
With both teams boasting a number of Taringa Rep stars, the stage was set for one of the better mixed 2 finals in recent times.
Lachlan Brennan got Best Friends on the board first followed by teammate Harry Clem.

The Rep theme continued with Best Friends’ Riley Wagner crossing for two tries in quick succession to see his side skip out to a 4-1 lead.
With moment firmly with the players in white, it took a scamper from Tatkovic to notch up his second and ignite some much-needed energy into his side’s attack.
Rampage’s Aiden McGuire crossed from short-range to get within one points at halftime.
As ascendancy was firmly with Rampage following a slow start, Best Friends needed to wrestle back possession and field position early in the second half.
Repeat sets gifted Lachlan Brennan the opportunity to claim his second try and get his side on the board first in the second half.
As Rampage reverted to default – a heavy dose of rucking, Aiden McGuire nabbed his second try shortly after with a spilt on the goal line.
With the scoreboard poised at 5-4 in favour of Best Friends, the match was set up for an outstanding finish.
It took lull of 8-minutes however Lachlan Brennan broke the shackles with a kick to himself.
Riley Wagner repeated the effort just minutes later to bust open the game at 7-4.
A visibly frantic and irked Rampage side began to pull the trigger with the ball in hand only to come up empty.
Sheer weight of possession saw Antony Tatkovic zip down the right touch line off a Clancy Tickner ball.
Tatkovic made a 50m break on the next possession only to be run down by Harry Clem in what was the play of the game.
A late try on the buzzer to Clancy Tickner was all in vain as time expired.
Well done to Best Friends on their grand final win in potentially their last season of Kick It.

Futuristic-Untouchables pip Makin’ It Rein in overtime.
It wouldn’t be a Taringa grand final night with Next-Gen Untouchables not featuring in a finals match – this time in the third mixed grand final.
The former mixed 1 champions fell from grace with a laundry list of injuries to key players leaving them with a team unrecognisable from past seasons.
Meanwhile, Makin’ It Rein made a successful return to Taringa after a year off. The crew led by Scott Fryer finished in ninth after a pleasing season.
The only experienced Untouchables in Tim Christie, Luke Dudgell and Anthony Martin were the difference as the trio piled on six tries and two assists, including the overtime match winner to Christie.
Ladies top try scorer Eliza Mooney crossed for two tries, including the try to send the match to golden point. Jarad Neinert also crossed for two as he took home Best and Fairest honours.
Well done to Next-Gen Untouchables on their win.
