MAROONS

2024 State of Origin Teams Announced 2
2024 Kick It Queensland Maroons

The Kick It QLD Maroons have unveiled an inexperienced side compared to the Origin appearances of years gone by.

Stalwart Jesse Ripley is the only Maroon retained from last year's triumphant sweep of New South Wales at Carseldine.

The Maroons feature fresh faces from Toowong summer champions in Quinn Porceddu (c), AJ Tucker, Thomas Scott and Charlie Mills.

Forest Lake spring and summer champions Hot Sauce are well represented by Hayden Yusio and Zach Masterson making their first Origin appearance.

Long-standing Misfit and 2023 City Origin captain Henry Waller earns a promotion, together with City teammate and Mystics' middle Lochie Beetson.

Slap Happy's Keeley Richards and Multiple Scoregasms' Ivie Vallance are the new female additions with plenty of try scoring prowess.

The Queensland Origin kit features a predominantly white top with heritage white bands across the chest.

The white top design is a first for Kick It Queensland, usually exclusively maroon.

A special thank you to our Maroons sponsors the RE Hotel, Range Brewing and Summit.

Blues

2024 State of Origin Teams Announced 3
2024 Kick It New South Wales Blues

The Kick It NSW Blues have named a balanced side with key experience and a number of fresh faces.

David Bath headlines the list of key inclusions as he moves into equal third for the Blues with his fourth Origin appearance.

Misfits captain Luke Sunkgar retains his spot, while Alexandria Craig returns after missing last year's match with a knee injury.

Dugongs Hunter Brown and Slap Happy's Andrew McGowan round off an experienced quintet.

Long serving Cattledog Zac Strickland makes his Blues debut along side Sneak Link's speedy Ben Slater.

Local partners Fitstop Toowong is well represented with Liesl Pederson and Vaughn Kelly named following positive summer seasons.

Fresh Forest Lakes faces in Ashleigh Adams and Crown Fitness' front man James Moller cap an exciting New South Wales outfit.

The Blues jersey design has kept with tradition, featuring a navy blue 'V and distinct sky blue body.

The addition of a edgy, modern pattern will ensure the Blues' pop on the field.

A big thank you to our Blues' partners LIVIN, Range Brewing and Summit.

Maroons Win 2018 Origin

The Queensland Maroons have secured their third-straight mixed State of Origin win with a hard-fought 9-4 victory over the Blues on Wednesday.

In a match built on sportsmanship and pure skill, it did not disappoint in greasy conditions.

A spirited second half comeback from the Blues highlighted by a length of the field effort from Chloe Storm who pounced on a loose ball to beat three would-be Maroons defenders.

Toowoomba’s own Beau Hess closed the gap to within one just minutes later, jumping on the ball in the in-goal after a nifty short grubber.

The momentum was short lived with a penalty try awarded to Dugongs’ Tim Mitchell, before Michael Bacon followed suit with a neat kick and score.

Player of the match Jayden Turnbull extended the lead to four after splitting from dummy half on Blues’ winger Ben Stevens to send Brayden Barrett over in the corner.

The match was put beyond doubt with Maroons captain Jess Sleep crossing for two points courtesy of a stylish in-and-away from Michael Bacon to draw the edge defence.

Beau Hess crossed for a late consolation try.

The mixed Origin match was billed as a fast-paced showdown between two hungry sides and in the opening minutes it lived up to expectation.

Some rock solid defence and quick rucking saw a stalemate over the opening quarter.

The deadlock was broken with a sharp grubber to Tim Mitchell. Just three minutes later, Troopers’ Michael Bacon jumped on a fortunate ricochet to extend the lead to 2-0.

In wet conditions, Joeys’ own Jayden Turnbull scooped up a long-range kick to slide over the line.

The Maroons would coast into the halftime break 4-0 following a pin-point kick from Spartans’ Ben Burstow.

Queensland Maroons
Tries: Tim Mitchell (2), Michael Bacon (2), Jayden Turnbull, Ben Burstow, Brayden, Jess.
Try Assists: Michael Bacon, Jayden Turnbull

New South Wales Blues
Tries: Beau Hess (2), Chloe Storm.

A big thanks to our match sponsors, LIVIN, Arrivederci Pizzera, Power Station Co., Intercept Co and Share Story.
